Yobe man kills Wife with machete, held for murder

The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed that a 55-year-old man, Hamidu Ali, fatally attacked his 40-year-old wife with a machete in Babangida, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, said in a statement on Saturday that the incident occurred on the morning of Friday, June 28 ,2025.

“At about 11 a.m., Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from residents of Koriyel Village, reporting that Hamidu Ali had macheted his wife to death for unknown reasons and fled the scene,” the statement read.

Police operatives have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspect.

In a separate incident, police arrested two men, Musa Sule (25) and Muntari Suleman (30), in Fika LGA for allegedly killing a man over accusations of mobile phone and power bank theft.

The suspects, both from Ngalda Town, reportedly beat the victim to death. According to Abdulkarim, “The suspects have confessed to the crime, and the case is currently under investigation by the State CID for eventual prosecution.”

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned both incidents and urged residents not to resort to violence but to embrace lawful and peaceful means of resolving disputes.

“We urge the people of Yobe to support law enforcement agencies and promote peace in their communities,” he said.
