APC pushes Taraba Gov’s defection till 2026

The Taraba State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Tukur, has confirmed that Governor Agbu Kefas is set to officially join the party in January 2026.

The governor had earlier postponed his scheduled defection on 19th November to the APC following the kidnap of students in Kebbi State.

Speaking during a press conference in Jalingo, the state capital, Tukur explained that the party has taken decisive action by suspending certain ward executives for breaching the party’s constitution. He urged all dissatisfied members to make use of the party’s internal dispute resolution channels before seeking legal intervention.

The chairman, representing the state working committee, further announced the reversal of the suspension placed on Taraba Assembly member Abel Peter of Mbamga Constituency, who had been sanctioned by his ward executives over alleged anti-party activities.

He also dismissed the claim by former vice-president Atiku Abubakar about taking over Taraba State, describing it as unrealistic and an exaggerated assertion, insisting that the APC has already secured control of the Taraba government house and has no intention of relinquishing it.
