Labour Party applauds INEC for recognising Nenadi Usman–led interim leadership

The leadership of the Labour Party has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for formally recognising the party’s Interim National Leadership, headed by Senator Nenadi Usman, as the legitimate and lawful leadership of the party.

Checks on the INEC website on Friday confirmed that the commission has listed Usman as chairperson of the party’s caretaker committee.

INEC explained that the recognition followed a court order directing the electoral body to acknowledge the interim leadership.

In a statement released on Saturday, Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Senator Usman, said the party expressed appreciation to the INEC leadership for “standing firmly on the side of the law, justice, and constitutionalism, and for demonstrating clear obedience to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The party noted that the development signals an end to the prolonged distractions and internal uncertainties it has faced over the past year. It called on its members across the country to close ranks and support the interim leadership as it works diligently to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

“As a major opposition party, the Labour Party remains committed to providing Nigerians with a credible, people-oriented alternative platform. Achieving this goal requires unity, dedication, and collective sacrifice from all stakeholders,” the statement said.

The party also thanked its supporters nationwide for their resilience and steadfast belief in the cause, while commending the judiciary for upholding justice and the Nigerian media for maintaining principled and fair reporting.

“As we intensify efforts to rebuild and strengthen our structures nationwide, we appeal for patience and continued support from Nigerians. Conscious of the limited time before the next election cycle, the party assures the public of its resolve to work tirelessly to restore the Labour Party to winning ways and achieve its objectives in the shortest possible time,” the statement concluded.
