NDC fixes presidential nomination form at N60m, unveils 2027 primary timetable

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the commencement of sales of expression of interest and nomination forms for aspirants contesting elective positions ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Moses Zuwoghe, national chairman, and Ikenna Enekweizu, national secretary, the party said the sale of expression of interest forms will begin on May 13 and end on May 18, 2026.

The party added that screening and interviews for aspirants would hold between May 19 and May 21, 2026.

According to the timetable released by the party, only aspirants who scale through the screening exercise would qualify to purchase nomination forms.

The NDC advised aspirants to appear for screening with all relevant credentials and supporting documents.

The party said nomination forms would be sold from May 21 to May 23 immediately after screening, while completed forms must be returned on or before May 25, 2026.

It also stated that appeals related to the screening process would be handled between May 25 and May 26, while primary elections for various offices are scheduled for May 27 and May 28.

The NDC said its presidential primary election would take place in Abuja on May 29, 2026.

According to the party, aspirants for state houses of assembly would be screened in their various states, while screening for national assembly and presidential aspirants would be conducted at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

The party added that governorship primaries would be held at the local government level.

The statement noted that all aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s code of conduct and guidelines.

The NDC assured members and aspirants of “a transparent, inclusive, and democratic process” throughout the sale of forms and conduct of primaries.

The party said it would adopt the “open secret ballot” method during the primaries to ensure “credibility, fairness, and internal democracy”.

According to the party, its nomination fees remain among the lowest charged by major political parties in Nigeria.

Under the approved fee structure, aspirants for state houses of assembly are expected to pay N1 million for expression of interest forms and N1.5 million for nomination forms.

House of representatives aspirants will pay N2 million for expression of interest forms and N4 million for nomination forms.

The party fixed senate forms at N3 million for expression of interest and N5 million for nomination.

Governorship aspirants are expected to pay N10 million for expression of interest forms and N20 million for nomination forms, while presidential aspirants will pay N20 million and N40 million respectively.

The NDC added that female aspirants and persons living with disabilities would enjoy discounts of 50 per cent and 25 per cent respectively across all categories.
