10 Teams ready for South-East U-15 handball championship

Ten teams are set to participate in the third edition of the South-East Under-15 Handball Championship, scheduled to take place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu from October 28 to 31.

The tournament, featuring five male and five female teams from across the South-East, is being organised by Lions/Grasshoppers International Handball Legends in collaboration with the South-East Zonal Representative on the board of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Chief Emma Asogwa.

President of the Legends group and former HFN Technical Director, Ferdinand Emeana, said on Monday that the initiative aims to revive and promote handball development in the region.

Emeana also commended the zonal representative for his consistent support of handball over the past decade and encouraged participating teams to present their best young talents for the tournament.

He said, “The legends saw the dwindling nature of the game that brought us to the limelight in the South East and decided to salvage the situation by contributing to bring together children under the age of 15 every year.

“This edition of the competition is significant because it is being co-hosted with the newly-elected Zonal Representative, Chief Emma Asogwa and being staged outside Owerri for the first time.

“We hope that our efforts will not be in vain as we have agreed to partner with the new HFN board to move the game to the next level.”

The legends are a group of retired professionals who played for the Grasshoppers and Lions International Handball clubs, Imo State.
