AFCON 2025: I’m not affraid of Nigeria’s attack –Mahrez

Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez has played down concerns over the attacking strength of Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of their AFCON 2025 quarter-final meeting.

The long-standing rivals will face off on Saturday, with both Algeria and Nigeria arriving at the knockout stage after winning all four of their matches in the tournament so far.

Nigeria boast the most prolific attack in the competition, having scored 12 goals. Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have three goals each, Raphael Onyedika has scored twice, while Semi Ajayi, Akor Adams and Wilfred Ndidi have one goal apiece.

Despite the Super Eagles’ firepower, Mahrez insisted he is unfazed by the threat posed by the Nigerian forwards when he addressed the media at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“They’ve scored a lot of goals in this competition, they have a very attack we can’t deny that,” the former Manchester City winger said.

“But tomorrow will be tomorrow, I’m not scared at all, it’s a football game we have our quality and our strength so it will be a good game.”
