AfroBasket 2025: D’Tigress defeat Mozambique, clinch quarter-final ticket

Nigeria’s D’Tigress clinched a gritty 60–55 victory over a determined Mozambique side in their second Group D matchup at the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, held on Monday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The result sends D’Tigress through to the quarterfinals and stretches their remarkable unbeaten streak in the tournament to 26 games.

After trailing 28–24 at halftime, the Nigerian team mounted a strong second-half comeback. They edged the third quarter 18–15, then sealed the win with an 18–12 surge in the final period.

Murjanatu Musa spearheaded the effort with 19 points, while Mozambique’s Leia Dongue finished with 11.

Despite shooting struggles from beyond the arc—converting only 13.04% of their three-point attempts compared to Mozambique’s 20%—D’Tigress displayed their trademark grit, going on a pivotal 12-0 run in the third quarter to swing the momentum in their favour.

With the win, Nigeria finished atop Group D, earning direct qualification to the quarterfinals.

They began their title defence with a commanding 92–45 win over Rwanda on Saturday.

D’Tigress are aiming for a fifth consecutive AfroBasket crown and their seventh overall, trailing only Senegal, who lead the all-time tally with 11 titles.
