Ajibade, Plumptre named in WAFCON 2024 group stage best XI

Super Falcons stars Ashleigh Plumptre and Rasheedat Ajibade have been named in the Best XI of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) group stage.

The list was compiled by the tournament’s Technical Study Group (TSG), recognizing standout performers from the opening rounds.

Plumptre earned her spot thanks to her composure and solid defensive work on the left flank. She features alongside fellow defenders Bambanani Mbane and Fikile Magama of South Africa, and Zambia’s Lushomo Mweemba.

Ajibade impressed with her dynamic runs and technical link-up between midfield and attack. The former Atlético Madrid star was also named Woman of the Match in Nigeria’s second group game against Botswana.

Joining Ajibade in the midfield are Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak and South Africa’s Refiloe Jane.

The forward line includes Zambia’s Racheal Kundananji and Barbra Banda, along with Senegal’s Nguenar Ndiaye.

South Africa’s Desiree Ellis was recognized as the Best Coach of the group stage.
