Amusan storms to victory in women’s 100m hurdles at Paris Diamond League

Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star, Tobi Amusan, delivered a dominant performance on Sunday to win the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the Paris Diamond League.

The 29-year-old world record holder crossed the finish line in a blistering 12.28 seconds at Stade Charléty.

Amusan finished ahead of Grace Stark of the United States, who placed second in 12.38 seconds, while Johnson came third with a time of 12.39 seconds.

Her season’s best remains the 12.28 seconds she also recorded earlier this year at the Diamond League meetings in Xiamen and Rabat.

The Paris event was held under a compressed schedule introduced by organisers following a severe heatwave across France over the weekend, which led to the cancellation of all lower-tier youth and regional club competitions.

Despite the intense 32°C track temperature on Sunday afternoon, Amusan showed no signs of slowing down.

Exploding out of the blocks, the reigning African champion produced a near-flawless technical display over the hurdles, pulling clear by the halfway mark before cruising comfortably to victory.

With major contenders closing in as the post-season circuit approaches, Amusan’s emphatic triumph in Paris sends a strong statement to her rivals ahead of the Diamond League Final.
