Anthony Joshua makes first public appearance since fatal car crash

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has made his first public outing after surviving a car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his close associates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

Joshua had remained out of the spotlight following the December 29 incident but was recently seen at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday, where he attended a bout involving Derek Chisora.

The British boxer was seated ringside as Chisora competed in what was described as the 50th and final fight of his career against Deontay Wilder.

Promoter Eddie Hearn noted that Joshua still requires time to recover before making any decision about returning to the ring.

Dressed in a white tracksuit, Joshua arrived at the venue alongside Hearn, stepping out of a black vehicle and walking into the arena amid media attention.

There was no interaction between him and his long-time rival Wilder, who passed by without acknowledgement in a corridor within the venue.

Joshua’s last fight came shortly before Christmas when he faced Jake Paul in Miami, while discussions continue about a possible clash with fellow Brit Tyson Fury.

Speaking during a ringside interview, Joshua said: “It’s amazing to be here. Boxing, especially British boxing, is booming.

“I’m obviously biased, I’m rocking with Derek regardless, so I’m Team Chisora.”
