BREAKING: Argentina fight back to eliminate Egypt, seal World cup quarter-final spot

Argentina kept their FIFA World Cup title defence alive with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Egypt in Tuesday’s Round of 16 clash.

The defending champions looked set for a shock exit after Egypt stormed into a two-goal lead through Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Ziko. Lionel Messi also missed a first-half penalty as the Pharaohs edged closer to a famous upset.

But Argentina responded in stunning fashion late in the game. Cristian Romero pulled one back in the 79th minute before Messi levelled the score four minutes later.

Enzo Fernandez completed the remarkable turnaround in stoppage time, heading home the winner to send Argentina into the quarter-finals.

The victory sees Argentina advance to the last eight, where they will face the winner of the Switzerland versus Colombia Round of 16 encounter, while Egypt bow out after a spirited performance.
