Champions League Draw Delivers Knockout Carnage as Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich Land in Same Half
The draw for the Champions League round of 16 has set up a blockbuster pathway, with a stacked “group of death” emerging in the top half of the bracket.
Six former European champions Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich — have all been placed on the same side, meaning only one of the heavyweights can make it through to the final.
Real Madrid (15 titles), Liverpool (6), Bayern Munich (6), Chelsea (2), PSG (1) and Man City (1) make up a combined total of 31 European Cup/Champions League trophies in the top half.
In contrast, only Barcelona (5 titles) have won the Champions League in the bottom half.
Atlético Madrid, Tottenham, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen have all been runners-up in the competition.
