Chelsea have brought forward David Fofana back from his loan spell as both the club and the player’s representatives move closer to arranging a possible permanent transfer in the coming days or weeks.
The 21-year-old Ivory Coast striker, who signed for the Blues from Norwegian outfit Molde in January 2023, has spent time out on loan in order to pick up valuable first-team minutes. Specific details of the proposed move, including the identity of his next club, have yet to be revealed.
Writing on X on Monday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “Chelsea recall David Datro Fofana from loan as he’s set for a new move in the upcoming days/weeks. Chelsea and Fofana’s camp are working on a permanent exit.”
The decision to recall Fofana indicates Chelsea’s desire to closely manage the next step of his career and facilitate a seamless move to a side where he can continue his development.
Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Fofana has struggled to establish himself in Chelsea’s senior team. As a result, the club have focused on his progression through loan spells, giving him opportunities to gain consistent playing time and experience at top level.
