Como strengthen European hopes with 2-0 win over Juventus

Como 1907 enhanced their push for a historic European qualification with a 2-0 triumph away at Juventus FC.

Juventus had been hammered 5-2 by Galatasaray SK in the Champions League play-offs on Tuesday but returned to Serie A knowing a win could lift them into the qualification spots for next season’s tournament. Victory would have seen them move above SSC Napoli in fourth place. Instead, they slumped to a third consecutive defeat, enabling Como to close the gap to just one point behind them in sixth.

Coached by Cesc Fàbregas, Como — who had drawn 1-1 with AC Milan earlier in the week — struck early. After 11 minutes, Anastasios Douvikas set up Mërgim Vojvoda on the right, and the Kosovo international cut inside before firing a powerful left-footed effort beyond goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

The visitors sealed the result shortly after the hour mark. Máximo Perrone launched a swift counter-attack following a poorly delivered Juventus corner and picked out captain Lucas da Cunha, whose low cross was clinically finished at close range by Maxence Caqueret.

The victory marked Como’s first league win in four matches, while Juventus now head into Wednesday’s return leg against Galatasaray enduring a five-game winless run across all competitions.
