Daniel Amokachi in line for Super Eagles U-23 coaching return

Former Super Eagles strike Daniel Amokachi is being considered for a possible return to the national team setup, with strong indications he could take up the Nigeria U-23 coaching role.

Sources suggest Amokachi, widely known as “The Bull,” is a leading contender for the Olympic team job, a position he previously held. However, his chances may hinge on resolving concerns surrounding his relationship with players and football officials.

He is among several candidates who have applied for the role, including former U-23 coach Samson Siasia.

Insiders revealed that Amokachi may need to rebuild his rapport with the Nigeria Football Federation leadership after declining an offer to serve as assistant coach to Finidi George in June 2024.

He reportedly turned down the position due to its “pay-as-you-work” arrangement, which a former teammate described as “demeaning.”

There are also concerns that the former international may need to adjust his approach in handling players, amid perceptions of a strict management style.

Amokachi’s most recent coaching role ended early last year when he stepped down as head coach of Lobi Stars after a run of poor results.
