Diaz gets three-game ban for Hakimi challenge

Bayern Munich will be without Luis Diaz for their Champions League clash with Arsenal next week, as the forward has been handed a three-game suspension following his red card against Paris St-Germain.

Diaz found the net twice in Bayern’s 2-1 victory over the defending champions PSG on 4 November, but he was dismissed shortly before the break for a dangerous challenge on Achraf Hakimi.

The tackle caused a severe sprain to Morocco international Hakimi’s left ankle, sidelining him since the incident.

Uefa ruled that Diaz’s foul constituted “serious rough play”, resulting in a three-match ban for the Colombian.

As a result, he will sit out the away fixture against Arsenal on 26 November, as well as the home encounters with Sporting and Union Saint-Gilloise on 9 December and 21 January respectively.

Earlier on Friday, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany had anticipated only a one-game ban for Diaz.

Bayern currently lead the Champions League table with 12 points from four matches, sitting above Arsenal and Inter Milan on goal difference.

Since arriving from Liverpool in the summer, Diaz has scored three times in four Champions League outings for Bayern this season and has added six goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances.
