DR Congo hold Portugal to stunning World cup draw

DR Congo pulled off a major upset at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, battling to a 1-1 draw against Portugal in their Group K opener.

Portugal struck first through João Neves and looked set to take control, but DR Congo refused to back down. Yoane Wissa restored parity before halftime, sending the underdogs into the break with renewed confidence.

Despite enjoying most of the possession and creating several chances, Portugal could not find a breakthrough in the second half as the Congolese defence stood firm.

The result hands DR Congo a valuable point against one of the tournament favourites and throws Group K wide open ahead of the remaining fixtures.
