D’Tigers crush Tunisia 87–66 in Afrobasket showdown

Nigeria’s D’Tigers secured a dominant 87–66 victory over Tunisia in the 2025 men’s Afrobasket on Friday, with Josh Okogie delivering a record-breaking performance.

The match at Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda in Angola saw Nigeria burst into a 10–0 lead, with Okogie of the Houston Rockets dictating play. They ended the first quarter 29–16 ahead and maintained control throughout, leading 48–33 at half-time and 68–47 by the third quarter.

By full-time, the 2015 champions had comfortably seen off the Eagles of Carthage, marking back-to-back wins after defeating Madagascar 77–59 earlier in the week.

Okogie made history by scoring 33 points in just 24 minutes — the highest tally for a Nigerian player since 2021. The lineup also featured Ike Nwamu, Caleb Agada, Talib Zanna, and Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu.

The result places D’Tigers at the top of Group B ahead of Sunday’s clash with Cameroon, which will decide knockout stage seeding.

Nigeria, Afrobasket champions a decade ago and three-time runners-up, will hope to replicate the recent success of the D’Tigress, who clinched their fifth consecutive women’s title weeks earlier.
