Ex-Chelsea midfielder Oscar released from hospital following heart scare

Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar has been discharged from the hospital after being admitted last week for a heart-related concern.

The 34-year-old became unwell during pre-season medical testing at São Paulo’s training facility on Tuesday, prompting prompt medical care.

According to BBC Sports on Monday, São Paulo stated that Oscar left Einstein Hospital Israelita on Sunday and was “stable and clinically well” during his stay.

“Extensive investigation carried out at the hospital confirmed that the player experienced an episode of vasovagal syncope,” the statement added.

Vasovagal syncope is a common type of fainting triggered by a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate.

The club confirmed that Oscar “will now follow a medical rest programme for the next few days.”

Oscar started his professional career with São Paulo and returned to the team last year on a three-year contract running until 2027, after eight years playing in China. Oscar remained in a stable condition in the hospital following the heart-related issue.
