Super Eagles legend Daniel Amokachi has moved another step closer to a career in football management after completing the CAF A Coaching Licence programme in Morocco.
The qualification represents an important milestone in the former Nigerian international’s transition from professional football to coaching, adding to his technical credentials as he pursues a future in management. Blueprint reports.
Amokachi, regarded as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished strikers, completed the programme in Morocco as he continues to acquire the qualifications needed to coach at the highest level.
The CAF A Licence is among the major coaching qualifications available on the continent, providing advanced training in areas such as tactical organisation, technical development, match preparation and team management.
From Super Eagles star to coach
Amokachi enjoyed an impressive playing career that established him as one of the most recognisable Nigerian footballers of his generation.
Known as “The Bull” because of his strength, powerful style of play and determination, the former striker represented Nigeria at the highest level and was part of the Super Eagles team that lifted the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations.
He also played for Nigeria at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups, while his club career saw him compete on some of the biggest stages in European football.
Following his retirement from playing, Amokachi gradually moved into coaching and technical roles, beginning a new chapter in a career that has remained firmly connected to the sport.
His latest qualification further demonstrates his commitment to developing a long-term career on the touchline.
Joins growing list of former stars
By obtaining the CAF A Licence, Amokachi joins a growing number of renowned former footballers who have transitioned from elite playing careers into management.
Former European stars such as Vincent Kompany, Frank Lampard, Xabi Alonso, Andrea Pirlo and Xavi have also made similar moves into coaching.
Kompany has developed into a prominent manager following his distinguished playing career, while Alonso has gained widespread recognition for his tactical approach.
Lampard, Pirlo and Xavi have likewise taken significant steps into management after successful careers at the highest level of the game.
Amokachi is now following a similar professional path as he continues to strengthen his coaching qualifications.
Another chapter for Nigerian football icon
For Nigerian football, Amokachi’s decision to further his coaching education could create another avenue for one of the country’s most respected former internationals to contribute to the development of the game from the technical side.
The former striker has already occupied coaching and technical positions since retiring from professional football, gaining experience across different areas of football administration and coaching.
The CAF A Licence provides him with another valuable qualification as he seeks to progress further in the technical department of the sport.
As more former elite footballers around the world move into coaching, Amokachi’s latest achievement highlights his determination to remain actively involved in football beyond his playing career.
The journey continues
Amokachi’s career has entered another phase, but his journey in football is far from over.
From representing the Super Eagles on the biggest international stage to taking on football administration and technical responsibilities, and now securing an advanced coaching qualification, the Nigerian icon continues to build his future within the sport.
With the CAF A Licence secured, attention will now turn to Amokachi’s next move as he looks to combine his experience as an elite player with the demands of modern football management.
The boots may have been put away, but Amokachi’s football journey continues — this time from the touchline.
