Ex-Super Eagles star applauds Amusan for silver medal win at World Athletics Championship

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has praised Tobi Amusan for securing a silver medal at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan.

Speaking on Brila FM, Udeze said: “Congratulations to Amusan, she did Nigeria proud. We expected her to win the gold but the silver is not bad. So once again congratulations to her.”

On Monday, Amusan claimed silver in the women’s 100m hurdles after finishing behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who stunned the field to clinch gold with a national record.

Kambundji, 23, crossed the line in 12.24s, surpassing her previous best to secure Switzerland’s first-ever world title in the event.

Amusan, the 2022 champion and world record holder, clocked 12.29s to earn Nigeria’s 12th medal in World Championships history.

American hurdler Grace Stark settled for bronze in 12.34s, while fellow American Masai Russell placed fourth in 12.44s.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Amusan looked dominant after winning her race in 12.36s, raising hopes of retaining her crown. However, she fell short in the final as Kambundji powered to victory.

The result adds another silver to Amusan’s record at the World Championships, following her historic gold in Eugene in 2022, when she set the world record of 12.12s.
