FIFA appoints NFF Normalisation Committee to oversee Nigerian football until May 2027

FIFA has approved the establishment of a Normalisation Committee to oversee Nigerian football until elections produce a new executive leadership for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

According to information released by the NFF’s media department, the decision ends speculation about the committee’s formation following the resignation of the Ibrahim Gusau-led Executive Committee.

The Bureau of the FIFA Council approved the committee’s establishment on Thursday. It will manage the federation’s affairs pending fresh elections into the NFF Executive Committee.

In a letter signed by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and addressed to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, MON, FIFA stated that “the normalisation committee shall consist of a suitable number of members, who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and CAF as soon as possible.”

The letter further stated that “the period during which the normalisation committee shall perform its functions shall expire as soon as it has fulfilled all of its tasks, but by no later than 31 May 2027.”

FIFA also ruled that members of the committee would not be eligible to contest any positions in the forthcoming NFF elections.

In the meantime, the NFF Secretariat will continue to oversee the federation’s daily administration and Nigerian football until the Normalisation Committee is appointed.
