The picture for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 quarter-finals became clearer on Tuesday after Algeria secured qualification with a Round of 16 win over DR Congo.
Online reports that seven of the eight teams for the quarter-final stage of Africa’s premier football tournament have now been confirmed.
Algeria defeated DR Congo 1–0 after extra time in Rabat, with substitute Anis Boulbina netting the winning goal in the 119th minute to book their place in the last eight. The result sets up a quarter-final showdown with Nigeria.
Nigeria had earlier sealed qualification on Monday night following an emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique, with Victor Osimhen scoring twice to propel the Super Eagles into the next round.
Senegal, Mali, tournament hosts Morocco, Cameroon and Egypt had already secured their quarter-final spots before Tuesday’s matches.
Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire completed the quarter-final line-up after a commanding 3–0 win over Burkina Faso on Tuesday night in Marrakesh.
The Ivorians will now take on Egypt in what promises to be a blockbuster quarter-final clash on Saturday in Agadir as they chase a second successive AFCON crown.
Goals from Amad Diallo in the 20th minute, Yan Diomandé in the 32nd, and a late strike from Bamba Touré in the 87th minute ensured a comfortable victory for the Elephants, whose composed display reinforced their title ambitions.
