Getafe make formal offer to sign Jadon Sancho

Spanish club Getafe have submitted a formal offer to sign former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who is searching for a new club after becoming a free agent this summer.

According to BBC Sport on Thursday, negotiations with Getafe are understood to be complicated, although the La Liga outfit remain interested in reaching an agreement to strengthen their squad.

Sancho, 26, is reportedly keen to leave England but remains open to different opportunities as he weighs his options for the next stage of his career.

The England international joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73m but struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford. He subsequently spent time on loan at Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Last season, Sancho made 39 appearances for Aston Villa under Unai Emery, featuring in the club’s Europa League campaign and helping them reach the final. He came on as a late substitute in Villa’s victory over Freiburg in the final, marking his third appearance in a European final across three consecutive seasons.

His previous loan spell at Chelsea during the 2024-25 campaign included an obligation to buy. However, the London club reportedly paid a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester United after he made 41 appearances for the Blues.

Sancho has continued training while searching for his next destination, frequently sharing videos of his sessions on Instagram. He recently visited non-league club Flixton, which clarified that he was not on trial with the North West Counties League side.

Getafe, currently 14th in La Liga and competing in the Europa Conference League this season, are exploring ways to strengthen their squad and could provide the winger with an opportunity to revive his career in Spanish football.

The club recently secured the signing of former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal on a free transfer. The 34-year-old defender, who won 27 trophies with Madrid, including six Champions League titles, has signed a contract until June 2027.

Despite Getafe’s reported offer, negotiations over Sancho’s potential move remain ongoing, with no agreement confirmed between the two parties.
