Ghana’s senior national team has suffered a double injury setback after forwards Antoine Semenyo and defender Baba Rahman withdrew from the squad ahead of the crucial continental qualifiers according to Vendro News.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed the withdrawals after both players picked up injuries during weekend matches for their respective clubs.
Semenyo suffered a lower-limb strain while featuring in the English Premier League, while Rahman sustained a physical injury during a match for his Greek club.
The absence of the two experienced players means head coach Otto Addo must make immediate adjustments to his squad and tactical plans.
The technical team faces the task of reorganising attacking transitions and defensive coverage on the left flank. The late withdrawals also put greater focus on squad depth, with the coaching staff potentially turning to domestic league players and fringe European-based professionals for replacements.
Training sessions at the Accra Sports Stadium have reportedly placed greater emphasis on defensive compactness and quick counter-pressing drills as the team prepares without the two players.
The withdrawals have added to concerns among supporters as preparations continue for the upcoming home fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Commercial sponsors and media partners are also expecting a strong performance, increasing the pressure on players who may be brought into the starting line-up to replace the injured duo.
The technical staff must finalise and submit the revised 23-man squad list to the continental governing body before the registration deadline.
Both players withdrew from the national team because of injuries sustained during competitive weekend fixtures for their respective European clubs, requiring medical treatment and rehabilitation.
The final squad registration window closes on September 24, 2026.
