Gravina steps down as president of Italian football federation

Gabriele Gravina has resigned as president of the Italian Federation following Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, according to Romano’s latest report.

Gravina had served as the top official of the Italian football association since October 2018. During his tenure, the Nazionale won Euro 2020 but failed to qualify for the 2022 and 2026 World Cups. Italy had also missed the 2018 World Cup before Gravina’s appointment.

He oversaw the appointments of Luciano Spalletti and Gennaro Gattuso as head coaches in 2023 and 2025, respectively.

Gravina’s resignation comes amid growing criticism over Italy’s repeated World Cup failures, marking a significant turning point for Italian football leadership.
