Borussia Dortmund will carry a two-goal advantage into the second leg of their Champions League knockout play-off after a comfortable home victory over Atalanta.
Following a 15-minute delay caused by traffic issues on their way to the stadium, the hosts struck early, taking the lead inside three minutes through striker Serhou Guirassy.
The Guinea international climbed above the defense to meet Julian Ryerson’s cross, heading in his 16th goal of the season.
The 1997 champions remained in control and doubled their advantage in the 42nd minute when Guirassy turned provider, delivering a cross for Maximilian Beier to finish at the back post.
Although the visitors saw more of the ball after the break, they rarely troubled goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, leaving Dortmund firmly in command ahead of the return leg.
