I will be Tottenham boss next season ‘no matter what’ – De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi has declared that he will remain Tottenham’s head coach next season, even if he fails to improve the team’s results and they are relegated.

De Zerbi was confirmed as Igor Tudor’s replacement on Tuesday after a poor run of form that saw Spurs go five league games without a win (D1 L4), leaving them just above the relegation zone.

The Italian has signed a long-term deal, reported to be five years, despite projections from the Opta supercomputer suggesting a 27.5% chance of relegation.

Tottenham are currently on a 13-game winless streak in the league (D5 L8), matching their second-longest such run in history.

De Zerbi’s first match in charge will be an away fixture against Sunderland on April 12, and he believes the squad has the ability to recover from their poor form.

“I watched a lot of games, especially in the last period. I know the players very well. It’s a difficult moment for everyone at Tottenham,” De Zerbi said.

“I think we have the right qualities to come out of this moment.

“I believe in the players. I think we have to remember who we are and who the players are because we have very big players and have to work on their confidence in themselves.

“I accepted this challenge because I have great confidence in the players. The style and history of Tottenham is a very clear type of play.

“After this part of the season, I think we can create a great future. I signed a five-year contract because it is a big challenge.

“I will be the Tottenham coach next season, no matter what.”

Spurs are still searching for their first Premier League win of 2026, with their 30 points from 31 matches marking one of their weakest seasons historically.

De Zerbi, who previously managed Brighton in the Premier League, brings prior top-flight experience, having won 26 of his 70 games in charge before departing after nearly two seasons.
