Iheanacho fires Celtic past 10-man Hibernian

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the decisive goal as Celtic FC defeated 10-man Hibernian FC 2-1, intensifying the Scottish title race.

The win moves Celtic level on points with Heart of Midlothian FC, who lead on goal difference, and four points ahead of Rangers FC, with crucial fixtures still to come among the contenders.

Hibernian were reduced to 10 men early in the match after Jamie McGrath was sent off in the 21st minute following a VAR review for a reckless challenge.

Celtic took the lead through Daizen Maeda, but Hibs responded before half-time as Joe Newell equalised in a controversial moment that survived a VAR check.

Despite dominating possession, Celtic struggled to capitalise on their numerical advantage until Iheanacho produced a moment of quality in the 72nd minute. The former Manchester City FC and Leicester City FC forward controlled a corner from Kieran Tierney before calmly finishing into the bottom corner.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill admitted the title race remains tight, noting that even winning their remaining matches may not guarantee the championship.

Attention now turns to a pivotal clash between Hearts and Rangers, followed by an Old Firm showdown that could ultimately decide the title.
