“I’m open to any club” — Nwabali speaks after Chippa United exit

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has revealed that he is open to joining any club following his exit from South African outfit Chippa United, a development that has made him one of the most sought-after free agents in African football.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper recently ended his four-year spell with Chippa United after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent, closing a chapter that played a key role in elevating his career.

Nwabali’s profile rose sharply after his impressive displays at AFCON 2023 and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where his heroics in penalty shootouts cemented his status as one of Nigeria’s leading goalkeepers.

Despite his increased visibility and reputation, the shot-stopper admitted that he is yet to receive a concrete offer since his sudden departure from the club.

Speaking on Sports Nights Amplified with Andile Ncube, Nwabali explained that his priority is to secure the right football project rather than make a hurried decision.

“I can play anywhere I want to play; there is no restriction,” Nwabali said.

“I am open to any club, local or international. Football deals with happiness, and my happiness comes first.”

The goalkeeper has been linked with a number of clubs, including South African powerhouse Kaizer Chiefs, Morocco’s Raja Club Athletic, Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq, a possible move to the Rwandan league, and English Championship club Queens Park Rangers. A transfer to QPR would represent his first move into European football.

However, Nwabali clarified that none of the speculated moves have advanced into official negotiations.

“There are no calls yet. The only calls are from my family and friends and people who are shocked at the news,” he disclosed.
