Liverpool finally secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Friday.
Alexander Isak was the star of the night, scoring twice inside the opening nine minutes to put Liverpool firmly in control. Both goals came from excellent work by Cody Gakpo, who provided the assists for the Swedish striker.
Isak opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Gakpo found him inside the box, with the forward calmly finishing past Ipswich goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.
Three minutes later, the pair combined again, with Isak completing his brace with a composed left-footed finish to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead.
Ipswich struggled to recover from the disastrous start but showed more attacking intent as the game progressed. However, Liverpool’s defence held firm to record their first clean sheet of the campaign.
Liverpool had chances to add to their advantage, while Ipswich also threatened on occasions without finding the final touch needed to beat Alisson.
New signing Bradley Barcola was introduced in the second half for his Liverpool debut and immediately showed glimpses of his pace and dribbling ability.
The victory gives new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola his first win in charge after successive draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. The Reds move up to fifth place with five points from three matches, while Ipswich remain on three points.
For Liverpool, the result provides an important boost after a difficult opening to the campaign, while Isak’s three league goals already suggest the striker could be finding his best form again.
