Lagos to host 2026 CAF Awards December

The 2026 CAF Awards will take place in Lagos on December 7, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced.

The African football governing body disclosed the date in a statement issued on Saturday.

Nigeria is also scheduled to host the CAF Ordinary General Assembly on November 21.

Earlier this year, President Bola Tinubu approved Nigeria’s bid to stage both CAF events.

In July, a five-member CAF delegation visited the country to assess facilities designated for the ceremonies.

The delegation inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre and the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. The two venues are expected to host the General Assembly meetings.

In Lagos, the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Art Theatre, has been selected as the venue for the CAF Awards.

EKO Hotel & Suites will provide accommodation and hospitality services for guests attending the event.

The CAF Awards is an annual ceremony that honours the continent’s outstanding footballers and other key stakeholders in African football.

Nigeria last hosted the awards ceremony on January 6, 2017, when Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez won the men’s Player of the Year award, while Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala claimed the women’s prize.
