Liverpool’s rematch excites us – Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique, head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, says a potential UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Liverpool FC brings back “beautiful memories” of their previous meeting.

Reflecting on last year’s encounter, Enrique recalled how his side overcame Liverpool on penalties after a tightly contested tie.

“When Liverpool were the best team in Europe at the time, I remember Arne Slot speaking very well about PSG, at a time when nobody else was,” he said.

“It was very positive for us, a beautiful memory of a classic tie.”

PSG progressed from that last-16 clash with a 4-1 shoot-out victory, following a 1-0 win at Anfield that levelled the aggregate score after Liverpool had earlier won by the same margin in Paris.

Enrique’s side went on to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time in the club’s history, while Liverpool secured the Premier League title that same season and had been considered favourites in that tie.

However, Enrique noted that the English side now appear less dominant, currently sitting fifth in the league standings.

“Are we the favourites now? I always try to weigh things up and control what is being said around the team,” he added ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 trip to Nice.
