Lookman, Onyedika on target as Atlético Madrid whip Brugge

Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika found the net for Atletico Madrid and Club Brugge respectively in a pulsating 3-3 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout round playoff clash.

Both Super Eagles stars impressed on the big stage, with Onyedika also delivering the assist that helped the Belgian side snatch a late equaliser at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday night.

Atletico opened the scoring through Julian Alvarez from the penalty spot after a handball decision. Lookman then doubled the advantage just before the break, reacting quickest to a loose ball from a corner to score at close range. It marked his third goal in four starts for the Spanish side, giving the visitors a comfortable lead at halftime.

Brugge responded strongly after the interval, scoring twice within eight minutes. Onyedika pulled one back in the 52nd minute, tapping home from close range, before Nicolo Tresoldi levelled matters on the hour mark. Atletico regained the lead late on through a Joel Ordonez own goal, but Onyedika turned provider in the closing stages, setting up Christian Tzolis to fire past Jan Oblak and ensure the tie remains finely poised ahead of the return leg next Tuesday in Madrid.
