Man City ban 165 fan accounts for ticket touting

Manchester City has banned 165 supporter accounts following an investigation into ticket touting, with 354 accounts suspended and 223 placed under close monitoring.

The probe was initiated after reports of away fans occupying home areas during matches against Feyenoord, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

The club reiterated its commitment to ensuring all general admission seats in home sections are occupied exclusively by Manchester City fans and stated it never knowingly sells tickets to away supporters.

During a meeting with the City Matters Fan Network, the club emphasized its efforts to prevent ticket misuse.

This follows a BBC report two years ago estimating the Premier League’s black market ticket touting to be worth over £50 million annually.

Rival club Manchester United previously acknowledged the challenge of completely preventing away fans from accessing home areas at Old Trafford, referencing an incident where Rangers fans celebrated a goal in January.

Manchester City, which has 37,000 season-ticket holders, allows fans to transfer tickets to friends or family if they cannot attend a match.

On average, 15% of season-ticket holders transfer their tickets, 10% use the official ticket exchange, and 8% miss matches entirely.

City’s next home game is against Brighton in the Premier League on March 15.
