Manchester City sack barman for wearing United jersey

Manchester City have dismissed a bar worker after he was caught serving fans during Sunday’s derby while wearing a Manchester United shirt.

Club officials acted after a supporter posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter), showing the staff member in a dark United away shirt from the 2018–19 season behind the bar at Block 315. The fan described the situation as “an absolute joke” during such a high-stakes match.

City responded swiftly: “Thank you for making us aware of this. We can confirm that this individual has now been removed from their position.”

The incident provided a bizarre sideshow to a difficult day for United, who suffered a 3–0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

After the match, manager Ruben Amorim insisted his 3-4-3 philosophy was non-negotiable, suggesting only his removal would change the system.

Meanwhile, club legend Wayne Rooney questioned United’s direction, noting they are bottom of the Premier League form table under Amorim. “It is very difficult to sit here and say we are seeing progression,” he said, warning that fans are growing disillusioned.
