France captain Kylian Mbappe has moved ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi in the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup adidas Golden Boot after the quarter-final stage.
Both players have scored eight goals in the tournament, but FIFA confirmed Mbappe leads the standings with three assists compared to Messi’s two.
According to FIFA’s Golden Boot rules, assists serve as the first tiebreaker when players finish level on goals. If they remain tied, the award is decided by total minutes played, with the player who has featured for fewer minutes ranked higher. Mbappe also holds the advantage over Messi in that category.
Norway striker Erling Haaland occupies third place with seven goals after scoring twice in his side’s quarter-final win over Brazil.
England duo Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane are joint fourth with six goals and one assist each, while France winger Ousmane Dembele sits sixth with five goals and two assists.
Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr, Mexico’s Julian Quinones, Brazil’s Vinicius Junior and Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal complete the top 10, each scoring four goals with one assist.
