Lionel Messi continued his remarkable goalscoring run on Sunday as he reached 930 career goals during Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw against San Diego FC in MLS.
The visitors struck first in the 12th minute when Anders Dreyer got on the end of a pass from Jeppe Tverskov and lifted the ball over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.
Inter Miami responded through Messi, who levelled the contest 12 minutes later from a free-kick.
The Argentine placed his left-footed effort around the defensive wall and watched as the ball hit the post before crossing the goal line, leaving goalkeeper CJ dos Santos unable to stop it.
Messi’s effort was his 20th MLS goal of the season and the 75th free-kick goal of his career.
Fabrizio Romano also highlighted the milestone in a post on X, writing: “Lionel Messi has now reached 930 career goals… by scoring his 75th free kick goal.
101 goals wearing Inter Miami shirt.”
The strike also moved Messi to 101 goals since joining Inter Miami. He had reached the 100-goal mark for the club only four days earlier in their Campeones Cup win over Cruz Azul.
Inter Miami went in front for the first time in the 74th minute when Luis Suárez scored to make it 2-1.
But San Diego fought back and Dreyer completed his brace eight minutes from time, securing a 2-2 draw for the visitors.
The result marked Inter Miami’s fourth successive MLS draw. The club now has 46 points from 26 matches, with 12 victories, four defeats and 10 draws.
Messi, 39, continues to add to his career tally as he remains one of the key figures in Inter Miami’s MLS campaign.
