Nigerians mourn UK-based footballer Sabiru Olayinka Adeniji

Nigerians have flooded social media with tributes for late footballer Sabiru Olayinka Adeniji, mourning his death and sending messages of sympathy to his bereaved family following the tragic incident in the United Kingdom.

Many users described his death as devastating, especially for his wife and young daughter, whom he is survived by.

Adeniji, a winger with Kings Park Rangers based in Halstead, Essex, died in hospital on Friday. He had been in intensive care since January 25 after suffering a serious brain stem injury.

Following his hospitalization, the club offered support to his family, who travelled from Nigeria to be with him but sadly arrived after his passing. A fundraising campaign set up to assist them has so far raised over £16,000 of a £17,000 goal to cover costs such as travel and accommodation.

Reports indicate that doctors delayed withdrawing life support in the hope that his relatives would arrive in time to see him, before the club eventually confirmed his death in a statement released on Saturday.

@miitmii also paid tribute, writing: “Rest in peace Ola! May the Lord grant your soul eternal rest and may your young family be comforted by this huge loss. Prayers for your family!”

A close friend of the deceased, identified as @Sarhmkhinhg, shared an emotional message, stating: “We absolutely lost him… My brother is gone… This is sad… My childhood buddy is no more… I am devastated…. Olayinka Saburi Adeniji.. Conslate as we fondly call you… Rest on my brother rest on.”
