Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique declared Monday that no side in Europe can currently claim superiority over his team as they get ready for their Champions League semi-final clash with Bayern Munich.
“These are the two best teams in Europe, even if Arsenal have also had a great season,” the Spanish coach told reporters ahead of the first leg at the Parc des Princes.
“In terms of consistency, maybe Bayern are a little bit above us. But we have shown that no team is better than us.”
PSG have now reached the semi-finals for the third consecutive season under Luis Enrique, who took charge in 2023, and they are aiming to secure consecutive Champions League titles after lifting the trophy for the first time last season.
Their route to this stage included victories over Chelsea and Liverpool in the previous rounds.
“It is a real pleasure and it is deserved. You need to be ambitious to get to this stage and I think we are. We still want to go that bit further,” Luis Enrique said.
PSG and Bayern have already faced each other three times since last season began: the German side secured a 1–0 home win during the league phase in November 2024, PSG responded with a 2–0 victory in a Club World Cup quarter-final in the United States last July, and Bayern later edged a 2–1 win in Paris in another league-phase meeting in November.
There had been concerns within the PSG squad regarding the fitness of Vitinha, who missed the team’s last two matches due to injury. However, his return to training on Monday provided a significant boost for the defending champions.
“Everyone is ready,” the coach added, noting also the return of Fabián Ruiz, who made his first start in three months after injury in PSG’s 3–0 Ligue 1 win over Angers SCO last weekend.
