Portugal claimed a 2-1 victory over Norway in their UEFA Nations League group-stage clash, with the home side’s goalkeeper, Ørjan Nyland, enduring a night to forget.
The decisive moment came early in the second half when Nyland gifted Portugal an opportunity after sending the ball straight into the path of Gonçalo Ramos.
Ramos needed no second invitation, calmly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to put Portugal ahead in the 54th minute.
Nyland was fortunate not to concede again shortly afterwards. Four minutes after the opening goal, the Norway goalkeeper made another costly mistake while attempting to clear the danger.
His poor clearance fell to Ramos, who finished into an unguarded net. However, Portugal’s apparent second goal was subsequently ruled out by VAR for offside.
Norway later found a way back into the contest, but Nyland’s earlier mistakes had already put his side under significant pressure.
Portugal held on to secure all three points, while Nyland’s two errors remained a major talking point from the encounter.
