Inter have completed the signing of England defender John Stones on a free transfer, bringing an end to his 10-year spell at Manchester City.
The Serie A club confirmed the arrival of the 32-year-old on Thursday, hailing his experience, leadership and decorated career in an official statement announcing his signing.
Born in Barnsley on May 28, 1994, Stones began his football journey with local side Penistone Church before joining Barnsley’s academy, where he progressed through the youth ranks and made his Championship debut on March 17, 2012.
He joined Everton in 2013, making his first-team debut in the League Cup before establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest young defenders. His rapid rise earned him a senior England debut in May 2014.
Stones moved to Manchester City in August 2016, where he developed into one of Europe’s leading defenders under Pep Guardiola.
During his decade at City, he made 295 appearances, scored 19 goals and helped the club win six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Inter also highlighted one of the defining moments of his City career—his remarkable goal-line clearance against Liverpool during the 2018/19 title race, a moment widely regarded as crucial in securing the Premier League crown.
At international level, Stones has earned 94 caps for England and has been a key figure in the national team’s recent successes, helping the Three Lions reach the UEFA European Championship finals in 2021 and 2024.
He also featured in England’s fourth-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and their third-place finish at the 2026 tournament after victory over France in the bronze-medal play-off.
Inter said the experienced centre-back is ready for a new chapter in Italy after spending his entire professional career in England.
“From the fields of Barnsley to the San Siro, after making history in Manchester, John Stones is a new Inter player,” the club said.
