Fulham defender Calvin Bassey believes his international colleague Victor Osimhen is on the same level as Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, according to Completesports.com.
Haaland is widely viewed as the world’s top striker at the moment.
But Bassey has drawn a comparison between Osimhen and the Norwegian star.
Bassey on Osimhen and Haaland
When asked by Stadium Astro which of the two prolific forwards is easier to face, Bassey admitted it’s tough to choose.
“I can’t really answer that because I’m about to face one and I play alongside the other, but maybe I’m biased. You could say Osimhen is harder to deal with,” the Fulham defender said.
“Haaland isn’t any easier, either. Both of them are extremely difficult opponents. They’re on the same level; I can’t pick one.”
No Real Difference Between the Pair
Bassey also highlighted the contrasting qualities of the two attackers.
“They’re both strikers, and of course they’re not identical. They’re powerful, very quick, and you always have to stay alert because they can punish you at any moment,” the ex-Rangers defender added.
“You must always be switched on, positioned correctly, aware of where they are, and they’re the type of players who can really drain you physically.”
Osimhen’s Premier League Dream
Osimhen has long been linked with Premier League sides such as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
Bassey confirmed that his teammate has ambitions of moving to England.
“He’s incredible. What he’s done for the national team and in the UEFA Champions League is outstanding,” Bassey said.
“He’s a ‘deadly’ striker. I was both pleased and disappointed that he didn’t join a Premier League club—pleased because I won’t have to face him, but sad because it would have been great for him.”
“Yes, we talked about his desire to play in the Premier League.”
“He doesn’t reveal much, but he did say he’s interested in the league.
“It’s a fantastic competition, the most watched in the world, so naturally many players hope to experience it someday. But he’s at a huge club right now and performing brilliantly.”
