Osimhen insists Super Eagles must secure 2026 World Cup spot

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has stressed the importance of the team earning a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The three-time African champions failed to qualify for the previous tournament held in Qatar.

Eric Chelle’s men are currently fighting for a World Cup berth through the playoff route.

On Sunday, the Super Eagles will take on the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final round of the African playoffs in Rabat.

The victor will advance to the Intercontinental Playoffs scheduled to take place in Mexico in March 2026.

Osimhen stated that missing the World Cup for a second straight time is not an option for the Nigerian team.

“We can get it done,” Osimhen told ESPN ahead of the encounter with the Leopards.

“We have the squad to actualize this dream of going to the World Cup because everyone wants to go to the World Cup.

“We have to be at the World Cup because we missed out on the last one and I think we have the quality to do it.”
