Osimhen sets record as quickest Galatasaray player to score 50 goals

Victor Osimhen has further strengthened his legendary standing with Galatasaray fans after netting his 50th goal for the club, reaching the landmark at an unprecedented pace.

The 27-year-old needed only 59 appearances to bring up his half-century, becoming the quickest player to do so for Galatasaray since 2000, based on Transfermarkt data released on Saturday.

While Osimhen was unable to find the net in Galatasaray’s 1–1 Champions League draw with Atlético Madrid, the wait for his milestone goal was brief.

He delivered it in the following game, scoring Galatasaray’s third goal in a 3–1 victory over Fatih Karagümrük, after Gabriel Sara’s two first-half strikes had already put the hosts firmly in charge.

Osimhen enjoyed an outstanding first season with the Turkish champions, registering 37 goals in 41 appearances, and he has carried that momentum into the current campaign.

His 50-goal tally has been reached thanks to 13 goals scored so far this season.

Notably, Osimhen hit the milestone 10 matches faster than Mauro Icardi, who occupies second place on the list.

Icardi, now Galatasaray’s captain, required 69 games to score 50 goals after joining the club in 2022.

Former French international Bafétimbi Gomis sits third, having reached the same mark in 74 appearances after arriving from Swansea in 2017.

The remainder of the top eight fastest goal scorers for Galatasaray in the 21st century is dominated by academy products, with Milan Baroš the only other foreign player to feature prominently.

Osimhen’s swift ascent and relentless goal output continue to highlight his value to Galatasaray as they pursue success both at home and in Europe.

The Nigerian forward, who completed a permanent move to the club this summer after a hugely productive loan spell from Napoli, has already become a fan favourite.

His popularity was evident when tens of thousands of supporters took to the streets of Istanbul to welcome him back, celebrating a player who played a key role in securing last season’s Süper Lig title.
