Nigeria international Victor Osimhen maintained his impressive scoring run on Friday night, finding the net for the third consecutive match as Galatasaray secured a 4-0 away victory over Chidozie Awaziem’s Konyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Osimhen’s compatriot and Super Eagles teammate, Awaziem, also featured in the encounter, playing the full 90 minutes for Konyaspor.
Osimhen gave Galatasaray the lead in the 12th minute, heading home a cross from Gabriel Sara at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium. The goal came a day after he announced the birth of his second child, Liora Audrey.
The striker has now scored nine league goals in eight appearances in the Turkish top flight this season.
Yunus Akgün doubled Galatasaray’s advantage in the 28th minute, before Aleksey Batrakov made it 3-0 four minutes into the second half. Rafael Leão completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the 55th minute.
The victory takes Galatasaray to 25 points and extends their lead over Amed Sportif, who are scheduled to host Eyüpspor on Sunday.
Osimhen had remained in Istanbul on Thursday following the announcement of his child’s birth but travelled separately to Konya on Friday to join the squad.
His continued scoring form will be encouraging for the Super Eagles coaching crew ahead of next month’s double-header in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Tanzania.
The 2023 African Player of the Year missed the opening two matchdays against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau because of injury.
Nigeria currently sit second in their qualifying group after recording one victory and one defeat in their opening two fixtures. They defeated Madagascar 2-1 at home before suffering a 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau.
Osimhen has represented the Super Eagles at three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments: 2019, 2023 and 2025.
