Osimhen wins sportsman of the year prize in Turkey

Victor Osimhen has been recognised as the Gentlemen Quarterly (GQ) sportsman of the year in Turkey.

The 26-year-old accepted the award during a black-tie ceremony held in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The annual event, organised by the Turkish edition of GQ Magazine, celebrates distinguished individuals across sectors ranging from music and film to sports.

Osimhen earned the accolade for his standout contributions to Galatasaray last season, where he scored 37 goals and made seven assists in 41 appearances, helping the club secure the league title.

His impact prompted Galatasaray to break the Turkish transfer record of €75 million to sign him permanently from Napoli.

He has maintained strong form this season as well, recording 11 goals in 14 matches.

The ceremony also featured 11 other award recipients. Aras Aydın, a Turkish actor, was chosen as the international achiever of the year, while Sinem Ünsal received the woman of the year award.

Edis, the British-Turkish singer-songwriter, was honoured as the music person of the year, and Bahtiyar Büyükduman was named chef of the year.
