Real Madrid held to 1-1 draw as Bellingham sees Red

La Liga leaders Real Madrid dropped points in a 1-1 draw at Osasuna on Saturday, with Jude Bellingham sent off.

The Spanish champions took the lead through Kylian Mbappé before the referee dismissed England international Bellingham for apparent dissent late in the first half.

Ante Budimir equalised from the penalty spot after 58 minutes as Carlo Ancelotti’s side endured a third consecutive league match without victory.

Second-placed Atlético Madrid, two points behind, hosted Celta Vigo later on Saturday, while third-placed Barcelona faced Rayo Vallecano on Monday.

With an eye on the midweek Champions League clash against Manchester City, Ancelotti rotated his squad, resting Rodrygo and giving Brahim Díaz a rare start.

Los Blancos dominated early on, moving the ball too quickly for Osasuna to gain a foothold. Vinícius Júnior had an early penalty appeal waved away when Alejandro Catena’s challenge saw the ball strike his arm.

The Brazilian winger missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring from a Mbappé cross, heading wide from close range. However, Madrid soon found their breakthrough as Fede Valverde set up Mbappé for a clinical finish—his seventh goal in five league matches.

Osasuna’s only first-half chance came through Aimar Oroz, but Thibaut Courtois produced a fine save.

Vinícius missed another chance before Bellingham was shown a red card in the 39th minute after a confrontation with referee José Munuera Montero. Madrid, already critical of Spanish officiating in recent weeks, grew more frustrated in the second half.

Osasuna equalised before the hour when Budimir converted a penalty after Eduardo Camavinga fouled the Croatian striker. It was Budimir’s 13th goal of the season, trailing only Robert Lewandowski and Mbappé, both on 17.

Despite being a man down, Madrid pushed for a winner. Mbappé fired just over, while Vinícius saw a shot deflected wide.

In stoppage time, Mbappé had a final chance, but Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera denied him with a strong save.

Having played for nearly an hour with 10 men, Madrid’s fatigue could benefit Manchester City in Wednesday’s Champions League tie at the Santiago Bernabéu.
