Players and officials of Rivers United narrowly escaped serious injury on Thursday after the club’s team bus was involved in a road accident while heading to Anambra State for a President Federation Cup fixture.
The Nigeria Premier Football League side was travelling to Awka for a Round of 16 match against Nasarawa United when the incident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt.
The crash reportedly happened shortly after the team departed their camp, sparking concern among supporters and the wider football community.
In a statement, Rivers United confirmed that while some players and officials sustained minor injuries, no fatalities or life-threatening conditions were recorded.
The club added that those affected are currently receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
Management reassured fans that the safety and welfare of players and staff remain a top priority as the situation is being assessed.
Although the accident has raised uncertainty over travel arrangements, the club said updates on logistics and the fixture will be communicated later.
