Super Eagles ready for crucial Rwanda clash

The Super Eagles have stepped up preparations for their decisive 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, with all 23 invited players now in camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

By Wednesday evening, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Raphael Onyedika and Chrisantus Uche had joined the squad, completing the roster.

The team began training on Tuesday evening with tactical drills, set-piece routines and other technical work. On Wednesday, Coach Eric Chelle continued to fine-tune his plans ahead of Saturday’s clash in Uyo.

Nigeria, three-time African champions, sit fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches. South Africa lead with 10 points, while Benin Republic and Rwanda are tied on eight. However, South Africa risk losing three points after fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, against Lesotho.

After facing Rwanda, the Super Eagles will travel to Bloemfontein for a crucial encounter with South Africa three days later.

Nigeria missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and failure to qualify for the 2026 edition in the US, Canada and Mexico would mark their first back-to-back absence since their debut in 1994.
